KUALA LUMPUR CLOSED 2016 Concludes

The Kuala Lumpur Closed 2016 Chess Championship (KL CLOSED 2016) concluded at the Kompleks Sukan Rakan Muda Bukit Kiara, KL around 6.15pm today.

After upsets in all rounds save for Round 3, the following players were chosen to represent the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur in the upcoming November's Inter-State competition in Kuantan, Pahang.

KUALA LUMPUR Team

1. Zaidan Zulkipli  (5 1/2pts, CHAMPION-2016 KL Closed).
2. Lye Lik Zang     (5pts, Runners-Up).

3 players i.e. Shreyes Subramaniam, WFM Tan Li Ting & CM Ng Jen Sheng finished level on 4 points. Hence, as announced earlier by KLCA, play-offs had to be conducted.  After the 3-Player Play-offs, the following were chosen:-

After deliberations and taking into account the number of players registered for each category as well as players' request due to festivities and holidays,
the EXCO's decision vis-a-vis 2016 KL Closed are as follows:-

MEN

The Men's competition will be shortened to 1-day ONLY,

to be held on Saturday, 29th October 2016.

The Kuala Lumpur Chess Association (KLCA) will be organising the  Kuala Lumpur Closed Chess Competition 2016 (KL Closed 2016). Purpose of KL Closed 2016 is to pick players to represent the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur in selected TEAM competitions.

Details of Kuala Lumpur Closed Chess Competition 2016 are as follows:-

1. Date:

Saturday, 29th October 2016.

2. Venue:

Kompleks Rakan Muda Bukit Kiara,

No. 1, Jalan Bukit Kiara, 60000 Kuala Lumpur.

3. Eligibility:

A. ONLY F.T.of Kuala Lumpur players are eligible to play in the KL Closed 2016

B. Players who represented other states in this year's Malaysian Masters* and Malaysian Chess Festival team event* are NOT allowed to take part in this competition.

4. Categories:

A. Open 

B. Women

Note: The Men and Women competition will be held separately. However, KLCA reserves the right to make the necessary changes depending on the final number of participants. 

5. Time Control:
30 minutes per player, NO  time increment.

9. Selection Criteria:
KLCA is selecting 5 players to represent the F.T. of Kuala Lumpur team i.e. 4 players and 1 reserve.

A. 4 Players will be selected from the KL Closed 2016 competition.
 i. Champion of KL Closed 2016 will automatically qualify for the Kuala Lumpur state team.
ii. Runners-Up to Fourth place finisher will qualify automatically for the KL state team IF the Fifth(5th)-placed finisher is NOT level  on points.
iii. Play-offs will be conducted IF Fifth(5th)-placed finisher and below is level on points with any of the players finishing Second(2nd) to Fourth(4th) in KL Closed 2016.

B. 1 Player will be the KLCA President's pick.

C. In the event of any selected player being unable to participate in the identified competition, the KLCA President reserves the right to pick a replacement player.

The National Closed will be held from Wednesday, 16th March to Sunday, 20th March 2016 at the Dewan University College Sabah Foundation, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

On 25th January 2016, The Kuala Lumpur Chess Association(KLCA) received an invitation via email from the Malaysian Chess Federation (MCF) to send players to compete in the event.

KL players who fulfill the criteria set by both MCF and KLCA in 2015, and able to play in the Malaysian Championships 2016 are invited to submit your name to KLCA for consideration.

MEN        - Minimum FIDE elo of 1800 or, NR of 1650.
WOMEN - Minimum FIDE elo of 1550 or NR of 1400.


3. QUALIFICATION CRITERIA for WILDCARD ENTRY (set by KLCA).
MEN        - Minimum FIDE elo of 1650 or, NR of 1500.
WOMEN - Minimum FIDE elo of 1450 or NR of 1300.

MALAYSIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016 (NCC 2016)

The Malaysian Championships ( NCC 2016) will be held from Wednesday, 16th March 2016 to
Sunday, 20th March 2016 at the Dewan University College Sabah Foundation, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

On the 25th of January 2016, The Kuala Lumpur Chess Association(KLCA) received its first official communication for 2016 from the Malaysian Chess Federation (MCF) i.e. an invitation via email for KLCA to send players to compete in the event.

Please be informed that only members of KLCA can be chosen to represent the F.T.of Kuala Lumpur.

The selection criteria to represent KLCA at the NCC 2016 will be announced in due course.
