Dear KLCA Members & the Kuala Lumpur Chess Community,

(1) 22 September 2015
On 22nd September 2015, KLCA received from MCF a Notice via email dated 21st September 2015. The email  was addressed to KLCA's Honorary Secretary(HS).
The MCF email states the Date, Time and Venue for the 2015 MCF AGM.

Note: An addendum, was sent on 25 September 2015.

(2) In the same Notice, it was stated that KLCA (along with 4 other State Associations - Putrajaya, NS, Terengganu & Perlis) have been barred from attending the AGM due to:-
 " Memandangkan negeri-negeri berikut gagal membayar yuran tahunan seperti yang dinyatakan dalam MCF Constitution Article 7 ( 7.2 ) tersebut diatas, maka negeri-negeri berikut tidak layak untuk menghantar delegasi serta mengundi ataupun di undi semasa AGM. 

Walaubagaimanapun negeri-negeri yang tersebut boleh menghantar 2 wakil sebagai Pemerhati."

(3) KLCA disputes the official reason given by MCF.
Many reasons can be offered by KLCA. 2 of it are as follows:-
A. MCF owes KLCA money.
The amount owing to KLCA is for KLCA helping to pay MCF's FIDE arrears in 2013.
The amount owing by MCF to FIDE was in EURO currency.
Amount paid by KLCA to FIDE is more than enough to pay for at least 20 years(if not more) of the yearly Annual Fees.

B. KLCA had written many times to MCF querying the amount to be paid and how it is to be paid.
The email sent is under the title;-
"Query on PAYMENT of YEARLY FEES by KLCA to MCF "
and was copied to Most (if not All) of the MCF EXCO Members that KLCA is aware of.

To-date, MCF have NOT replied to this email nor sent any invoice for the Yearly fees to be paid. 
MCF have however found the time to invoice KLCA for 'alleged' ratings arrears. 

(4) 26 September 2015
KLCA via its HS had written an email (and copied to All) dated 26th September 2015 titled;-
" PERMOHONAN KLCA UNTUK SEMAKAN TERHADAP KEPUTUSAN MCF TIDAK MEMBENARKAN KLCA MENGAMBIL BAHAGIAN(MENCALONKAN & MENGUNDI) DALAM MESYUARAT AGUNG TAHUNAN PERSEKUTUAN CATUR MALAYSIA(MCF0 2015) ".
As at time of this post, NO official black and white reply have been received by KLCA from MCF.

(5) 22, 28 and 29 September 2015
On the 22nd, 28th and 29th of  September 2015,
KLCA have filed a report(s)/complaint(s) with the pertinent authority(ies).

(6) 3 October 2015
As at this moment, KLCA takes the position that for the sake of all stakeholders of chess, matters should and can be resolved amicably.
However, subject to further advice from the pertinent authority(ies) and upon checking the Prevailing Statute(s), Any Administrative and/or Legal Option(s) available to KLCA is on the table.

Capital TV which is aired at Channel 420, Hypp TV-UNIFI is into its 2nd Year as a Media Partner for the KL International Open. Last year Broadcast Journalist(BJ) Kim and crew attended the closing ceremony and subsequent PC.

The eighth edition of the KL International Open Chess Competition 2015 is featured today in an international chess media i.e. Chess Asia Pacific at www.chessasiapacific.com

At a time when its difficult to get any coverage for chess events in the media not only in Malaysia but elsewhere internationally and especially under the prevailing circumstances in Malaysia, the Organising Committee is thankful for the international chess media coverage. Additionally, the KLCA would like to thank members of the media corps who had in one way or another provided coverage or assisted with the KL Open 2015.

Happy 58th Merdeka Day to All MALAYSIANS.

The 2015 KL International Open Chess Competition which began yesterday received some media coverage in the run-up to the event in articles by The Malay Mail, on Technical Meeting day and Day 1 by "The ASEAN 500". Yesterday, the crew of Capital TV, Channel 420 which is aired on Hypp TV-UNIFI led by Azah Sahrin were spotted in the Ballroom for around 45minutes to 1 hour.

At a time when its difficult to get any coverage for chess events in the media not only in Malaysia but elsewhere internationally and especially under the prevailing circumstances in Malaysia, we're thankful for the media coverage extended. The 2015 KL Open Organising Committee and KLCA's President as well as EXCO members would like to thank members of the media corps who had in one way or another provided coverage or assisted with the KL Open 2015.

2015 KL International Open, Begins TODAY! Day 1 of 2!!

The 2015 KL Open begins today at the Cititel Midvalley - KL.

Round 1 ended with a few upsets in the premium OPEN event notably Olympiad, 11th seeded Sumant Subramaniam (FIDE Rating 2115) loss to CM Ng Jen Sheng (1642). Other notables were CM Fadli (2024) seeded 20th who lost to Selangor MSSM player Bryan Yap(1417) seeded 48th and 5th seeded Nelson Villanueva(2294) who drew with 33rd seeded Lum Zhun Hong(1779).

In the developmental U16 Juniors category, introduced for the first time by KLCA this year for Juniors development purposes - the "script" or pairings were largely followed.

Round 2 began a short while ago, with a few of the event Media Partners like Capital TV and Chess Asia Pacific in attendance.

Players are requested to check their details especially FIDE ratings and let me know if their are any mistakes.

We use FIDE rapid rating first and if not available then the FIDE standard rating applies, otherwise the player will be considered unrated

Some obviously do not have FIDE IDs and a request to issue the same has been made to the MCF FIDE ratings officer.

There are some also without a national rating and we have also advised the the MCF national ratings officer of this.

(1) There are limited Booth and Advertising space for rent during the 2015 KL Open.

(2) BOOTH SPACE rental are as follows:-

A. CHESS-related Booth e.g. equipment, books, software, training, souvenirs etc

I.  RM 50 for 2days; or,

II. RM 30 for 1 day only

B. Non-Chess Merchandise Booth

I.  RM 100 for 2days; or,

II. RM   60 for 1 day only.

Note: 

a. FOOD Items are NOT allowed to be sold.

b. Non-chess merchandise acceptance will be at the sole discretion of the 2015 KL Open Organising Committee. The 2015 KL Open Organising Committee reserves the right to refuse any request without providing any explanation whatsoever.

Appointment of Deputy President, KLCA - Dr. Zaidan Zulkipli

In the KLCA EXCO Meeting held in Midvalley Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, 22nd August 2015 , Dr.Zaidan Zulkipli was appointed as KLCA's Deputy President to fill-up the vacancy left by the previous Deputy President who assumed the President post.

Prior to the appointment, Zaidan was an EXCO member of KLCA and is the Head of KLCA Technical Committee. Zaidan will assist the KLCA President in running the association and will represent KLCA/KLCA President at certain designated events. He will still be Head of the Technical Committee.

Zaidan, is a trained medical doctor and budding entrepreneur. Many in the chess community would recognise him as an "irregular regular"player in the local chess scene due to his job demands. He'd won a few international events in Europe, Asia and not forgetting Malaysia. Amongst notable results are:
Champion - Galway Chess Club Blitz Tournment. IRELAND 2005 - 2011.
Champion - Leinster Chess Championship. Dublin, IRELAND - 2011.
Runners-Up - FE 5 Comune. Vanzagello, ITALY -2009.
Third - e2e4 Chess Tournament. London, U.KINGDOM - 2010.
6th - Jubilee Tourney under 2100. Zurich, SWITZERLAND - 2009.
Champion - 8th Asian Dragons. New Taipei City, TAIWAN - 2014.
His latest win was in Sabah this year.

KL Open 2015 - Registration Update, UPDATE 2. EXTENDED DEAD-LINE with PENALTY CHARGES

KLOpen2015 :EXTENSION of REGISTRATION DEADLINE with LATE PAYMENT CHARGES

1. Please be informed that as per Prospectus Released in July 2015 at KLCA's site, the Registration Deadline for KL Open 2015  is at 5.00 PM-Friday, 21st August 2015.

2. Due to numerous requests received by the chess community, the Organising Committee with KLCA's EXCO Members agreement have agreed to extend the Registration Deadline with Proof of Payment until 5.00 PM - Tuesday, 25th AUGUST 2015.

3. However, a Late Payment Charge as follows will be imposed:-

    A. OPEN - RM20 per player; 

    B. U16 Open Juniors - RM10 per player.

4. Payment, can be made to any of the following:-

The Tournament Diretor or TD for the 2015 Kuala Lumpur International Open Chess Competition is Mr. Ng Ling Gee. He is also KLCA's EXCO member and its Head of Competition since January 2015. 

Ng has been to many international competitions such as the Asian Schools C.C. and the ASEAN+ Age Group C.C. He's also a regular at the national level MSSM and NAG events.

(1) Please be informed that the initial List of Players will be published 1-2day(s) after the close of entries at 5.00PM(1700Hours) on FRIDAY, 21st AUGUST 2015.

With sponsorship from the Kasparov Chess Foundation Asia-Pacific and IGB Corporation, the Kuala Lumpur Chess Association (KLCA) is pleased to announce the KL International Open & Junior Rapid Chess Championships will be held at the Cititel Hotel Ballroom, Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with Merdeka Day Celebrations from 30-31 August 2015.

2. Format of Play

The tournament will be played over 9 rounds using the Swiss System according to World Chess Federation (FIDE) Rapid Chess Regulations, with a time control of 25 minutes each to the finish.

3. Prizes

Open:

1st RM 3,000, 2nd RM 1,500, 3rd RM 1,000 4th RM 700, 5th RM 500

6-10th RM 300 each, and 11th-20th RM 150 each. (The top KLCA player will receive a special RM 500 prize together with the title of KL Champion)

Juniors (U-16):

1st RM 600, 2nd RM 300, 3rd RM 150, 4th RM 100, 5th RM 50, and Best U-12 RM 100.

The entry fee for Open is RM 50 (RM 30 for KLCA Members and USD 50/RM 200 for Foreigners) and the entry fee for Juniors is RM 30 and the organisers reserve the right to refuse any entry without explanation.

Note: FIDE does not charge for FIDE Rapid events. However MCF insists it must also be nationally rated and the levy is RM 9 per player! KLCA have appealed for this to be waived/reduced and have not received any reply to date. We have waited over a month now and should it not be rated it is then the decision of KLCA to still proceed with the KL Open as its obligation to its members and the chess community while honouring the sponsorship given.

New EXCO Appointment - CM Fadli Zakaria (Fund-Raising & Corporate Partnership)

In a brief ceremony today in Kuala Lumpur, CM Fadli Zakaria is appointed as a new EXCO Member in KLCA's EXCO line-up until the next AGM in 2016. Fadli will be responsible for the Fund-Raising and Corporate Partnership portfolio.

Fadli, a full-time chess professional is married  and used to represent Johor. A familiar face within the chess community with his flagship Cerdik Catur brand, it is hoped that with his experience more local competitions will be organised by KLCA.

KLCA and Hon.Secretary wishes him all the best in undertaking his duties.

Amirul HM - Organising Secretary for 2015 KL International Open (also Honorary Secretary, KLCA)

The Organising Secretary for this year's 2015 KL International Open will be Amirul HM. He is also KLCA's Honorary Secretary for the 2014/2015 term. This will be his second involvement in the KL International Open after being involved in the 7th edition held in April of 2014 at the Olympic Sports Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.


Amirul HM has attended the following Courses and/or Seminars:-
(1) 2014 (June), MACAU S.A.R. Chess in Education Seminar.
      organised by Kasparov Foundation.

(2) 2013 (December), Al Ain - UNITED ARAB EMIRATES. IO-International Organiser Course.
      organised by FIDE.

(3) 2013 (February), UTP Tronoh - Perak, MALAYSIA. Arbiters Course.
